Mr John Houghton - Chairman & Acting Chief Executive Officer
Mr John Houghton

John Houghton has had many years’ experience of project and construction management in the chemical, mineral, paper and petro-chemical fields worldwide.

John studied mechanical and civil engineering at Westminster Technical College in the United Kingdom, during this time he was part of a design team working on hydro- electric schemes and motorway designs.  He has worked with a variety of engineering companies and managed construction projects in the Wales, Scotland, Belgium, Venezuela and South Africa. He has been in Executive Director Positions with consulting engineers and construction companies and was involved in the establishment of joint ventures to construct the turnkey portions of Moss gas.

Mr. Houghton joined Anglo American Corporation of South Africa in 1989, working in various projects in Africa and Europe, heading up their dimension stone activities world-wide. He was Managing Director of Genrec Natal and Director of Projects at EMS, a division of Murray and Roberts; and he has been Chairman of Impala Granite, Kudu Granite, Stone & Allied and Deutsche Stein Industries, and Chief Operating Officer of Zimco Industries.

In 1996, Mr. Houghton set up as an independent business consultant. His clients included Anglo American Corporation, Minaco Stone, for whom he acted as executive chairman, Marlin Corporation, Business Against Crime and First National Bank. He established the Tedcor Group in the same year.

Dr Popo Molefe - Deputy Chairman
Dr Popo Molefe

Detained in prison as a political activist during South Africa's previous apartheid government regime, Popo Molefe was part of the delegation that had talks with the government of FW de Klerk to negotiate a new dispensation and paved the way for South Africa's first democratic elections that were held on 27 April 1994.

Dr Molefe's achievements include: serving two terms as Premier of the North West Province and as Chairperson of the ANC in the North West; being awarded the Harvard University Certificate for Conflict Resolution in 1990; obtaining a diploma in leadership from the Wharton School of Business attached to the Pennsylvania University and another diploma from the JFK School of Governance at Harvard University in 1996, and being awarded an honorary Doctorate by the University of the North West in 2001.

Dr Molefe is the CEO of Lereko Investments (Pty) Ltd. He has been instrumental in developing businesses, particularly in the mining sector and tourism in the North West Province. Dr Molefe serves on a number of boards. He is also the Chancellor of the North West University.

Mr Terry Davidson - Financial Director
Mr Terry Davidson

Prior to his appointment as Financial Director in 2001, Terry Davidson was a consultant to Tedcor from 1998 to 2000.

A qualified chartered accountant, Mr. Davidson has more than 40 years' experience in the field. His expertise extends to all aspects of financial and business administration, strategy and operations.

His background includes experience as CEO of the Cobra Group and CEO of Standard Engineering Limited. He was a partner in a firm of chartered accountants specialising in carrying out forensic investigations on behalf of major commercial enterprises, as well as work for the office of Serious Economic Offences and the Commercial Crime division of the South African Police.

Mr Clarence Hamman - Operations Director
Mr Clarence Hamman

Clarence Hamman began his working life as a teacher in 1970. He became Deputy Principal of Kenridge Primary School, before joining Brown & Neethling Office Furniture Manufacturers in 1981, with whom he rose to the position of General Manager in 1987. During 1996 and 1997, he was with Bvi Consulting Engineers where, as Area Manager Mpumalanga and Free State he was responsible for marketing the Billy Hattingh concept of waste removal.

Mr. Hamman joined Tedcor in 1997 as an Executive Director with a range of responsibilities, including: changing, developing and implementing work procedures that continuously improve and ensure quality service to clients; and encouraging employees to optimise their capacity by maintaining and developing the required skills. On an operational level, Mr. Hamman co-ordinates and controls the national operational, support and training management functions. He is also responsible for preparing tender documents and negotiating contracts and for conducting feasibility studies.

Mr Victor Nemukula - Sales & Marketing Director
Mr Victor  Nemukula

Victor Nemukula joined Tedcor in April 2007 with wide ranging responsibilities within the company. He has extensive experience in marketing management, Business Development and advertising. He has gained a considerable knowledge in waste management through his extensive consultation with local municipalities throughout South Africa.

Victor Nemukula began his career at Independent Newspaper Gauteng in 1995. He then went on to work for Hunt Lascaris in 1997 where he worked on various account including SFW, MTN, Nu Metro and Standard Bank. In 1998 he joined MTN SA as an Assistant Marketing Manager for Service Provider and New Business. He was appointed Acting Marketing Manager for Service Provider and New Business in December 1998 until his appointment as an Advertising Manager for Corporate and SME in March 1999. This is the position he held until he left in August 2001 to join Headspace Solution as Marketing Director. He thereafter joint JJ Mining as a Marketing Director in 2003 until he left to head Marketing Department for Electronic Communications Security Pty Ltd (COMSEC), a state-owned entity within the Ministry of Intelligence. He left COMSEC to join Tedcor in 2007.

He studied for a BA degree at the University of Venda from 1989 to 1992 and then for a BA Honours degree at the University of the Western Cape which he completed in 1993. He then studied marketing management though Wits Technikon on a part-time basis between 1996 and 1997. He then enrolled for a diploma in Advertising with the AAA School of advertising in 1998. In 1999 he did a short course in Project Management through Damelin. He is currently completing a Masters degree in Business Leadership (MBL) through the University of South Africa.

Mr Matthew Nell - Director
Mr Matthew Nell

Matthew Nell completed his BSc (Building Science) and MSc (Town and Regional Planning) degrees in 1972 and 1980 respectively. He also participated in a Management Development Programme at Harvard University Business School, USA, in 1988. Matthew spent some 14 years with the Urban Foundation where he headed up their housing division. Since 1992, Matthew has run a development consultancy, initially called Matthew Nell & Associates and more recently Shisaka Development Management Services, specialising in housing and urban development and more recently expanding into the fields of  infrastructure, municipal service delivery  and job creation.

Matthew has over 30 years' experience with urban and housing development and management issues.

Matthew's consultancy work has provided advisory services to the State, the Private and the Non-Governmental  Sectors in respect of Policy, Strategy and Programme Design. His clients include the National Housing Finance Corporation, the Independent Development Trust, the Rural Housing Loan Fund, the Social Housing Foundation, and the National Urban Reconstruction and Housing Agency (Nurcha) and Non Governmental Agencies such as  the Urban Foundation, the National Business Initiative (NBI) and The Business Trust. He has also provides services to the European Commission, The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and to various smaller multilateral development agencies.

Matthew has more recently led teams that designed and implemented support programmes on behalf of the Business Trust, the Department of Public Works and the Presidency of South Africa. Matthew has been a non-executive director of Tedcor for 15 years.
