 John Houghton has had many years’ experience of project and construction management in the chemical, mineral, paper and petro-chemical fields worldwide.
John studied mechanical and civil engineering at Westminster Technical College in the United Kingdom, during this time he was part of a design team working on hydro- electric schemes and motorway designs. He has worked with a variety of engineering companies and managed construction projects in the Wales, Scotland, Belgium, Venezuela and South Africa. He has been in Executive Director Positions with consulting engineers and construction companies and was involved in the establishment of joint ventures to construct the turnkey portions of Moss gas.
Mr. Houghton joined Anglo American Corporation of South Africa in 1989, working in various projects in Africa and Europe, heading up their dimension stone activities world-wide. He was Managing Director of Genrec Natal and Director of Projects at EMS, a division of Murray and Roberts; and he has been Chairman of Impala Granite, Kudu Granite, Stone & Allied and Deutsche Stein Industries, and Chief Operating Officer of Zimco Industries.
In 1996, Mr. Houghton set up as an independent business consultant. His clients included Anglo American Corporation, Minaco Stone, for whom he acted as executive chairman, Marlin Corporation, Business Against Crime and First National Bank. He established the Tedcor Group in the same year. |
